Position Held

 Active in politics since early youth and college days; Active Member of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee since 1977; Was Joint Secretary, Treasurer and also Vice-President of DPCC; Elected to the MCD as Councillor in 1977; Again elected to MCD in 1983; Was Chairman of the Works Committee and Chief Whip of Congress Party in the MCD from 1983 to Jan., 1990; Being a deeply religious person, actively participates in religious as well as cultural activities; Launched “Jail Bharo Andolan” in 1977 at the time of arrest of Former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi by the then Janta Govt. and was imprisoned for 15 days in Nabha Jail in Punjab; Has served the party with dedication in various capacities; Elected to the Second Delhi Legislative Assembly for the first time in the General Election held in November,1998 & was Chief Whip of Congress(I) Party;

Again elected as Member of 3rd & 4th Legislative Assembly  and is endowed with the responsibility of Minister of Social Welfare Department, Labour & Employment  Department, Law Justice & Legislative Affairs and Elections.
